Hello,
I would like to introduce you to The Friends of Shrewsbury High and tell you a little about who we are and what we do. The Friends is made up of a group of school staff, teachers and parents who work together to support the school in a variety of ways including fund-raising; creating opportunities for the parents to meet socially. The Friends’ Committee comprises a Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and other volunteers.
Your support and interest is appreciated and you can help by turning up to the events we organise and volunteering your time to make cakes or serve refreshments. It isn't all about fund-raising though and becoming involved in out of school activities will give you the opportunity to keep in touch with what is happening in the School and enable you to meet other parents socially.
We aim to enrich the lives of the students and support the development of the School in any way that we can.
Thank you,
Sylvia Quayle, Chair, Friends of Shrewsbury High
What is the Friends of Shrewsbury High?
Shrewsbury’s High School Friends is a partnership between parents and staff to support everyone in the school community. It also welcomes involvement from alumnae and other supporters.
What does the Friends do?
- Organise educational evenings
- Organise social events
- Raise funds for a variety of purposes
Fund Raising Success
We have one objective – to enhance the education of the students. We do this by:
- Raising funds for school projects outside the normal school budget
- Organising social functions and supporting school activities developing the relationship between parents and school
- Providing a forum for consultation between the Head Teacher and parents.
- Engaging in activities which support the school
During each year we run a number of functions and events in order to raise funds for various projects. Last year we have organised several events including Jazz on the Lawn at Kingsland Grange, raising thousands of pounds in total.
The Christmas Fayre on 5th December was a great success, thanks to all who helped and all who turned up on the night. The students raised a whopping £192 for next year's South Africa Sports Tour from donations for drinks and refreshments, and the gift-wrapping service.
The Friends' Quiz Night in February was another sell-out, and was a fantastic evening for all involved, raising over £450.
THE SHREWSBURY HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL FUND
We are contacting our whole school community: alumni, staff, governors and other friends, to ask for your support for the school's Annual Fund. An exciting initiative, the Annual Fund replaces the Senior Department’s Amenity Fund, and gives parents an opportunity to help the school provide those extras that thoroughly equip and inspire your children for bright futures in the world at large. The Annual Fund will provide the school with even more, as you can complete a Gift Aid form to make your gift go further. In addition you can choose which area of the school you would like to support with your gift.
We hope that you will support us in this new appeal, in the school’s 125th anniversary year. Further details can be found here.
What can you do to help?
- Join the Friends – the meetings are very sociable and interesting, and not too frequent – we meet every six weeks or so. New members are always welcome, and we would be very pleased to hear from you with fund raising and social event suggestions. Get in touch or come and join us at the next Friends meeting. The Friends offer a fantastic opportunity to get involved in school life – don’t miss your chance!
- Be a ‘parent helper’ at one of our functions.
- Support our social events – they are enjoyed by all those who attend.
- Tell the Committee about your ideas, interests or concerns.
If you feel you can help in this way, then please contact a member of the Friends committee, or contact the school directly.
