Welcome from the Head

Shrewsbury High is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading independent schools and we are proud of the special blend of academic excellence, all round opportunity and pastoral care that we offer. Our structure is very distinctive, and our co-ed Prep School and all-girls Seniors have received considerable recognition in recent years, being nominated for over ten national awards.

Academically, Shrewsbury High has enjoyed an enviable reputation throughout its 132 year history as one of Shropshire's leading independent schools. Recent successes include being ranked 62nd in the country at A level in 2014 and 26th highest performing girls' senior school. In 2017, our GCSE results reached a superb 62% A*/A (grades 7-9) and we were delighted to have one third of all of our students achieve straight A*/A grades. Similarly, Prep School pupils regularly receive prestigious Scholarships paving their way to Senior Schools and we aim to instil a love of learning and a genuine sense of academic aspiration in all of our children. However, we value our broader education with equal importance.  Holistic education is where we excel. We aim to ensure that our extracurricular provision at junior, senior and sixth form level is of the very highest of standards, from Music and the Performing Arts through to Sport and beyond. Recent highlights include being named Best UK School for Sport in national awards in 2015 and having one of our senior pupils named Shropshire Young Musician of the Year in 2016.

We aim to nurture each and every student academically and personally through very highly skilled teaching in a happy, friendly, supportive and well equipped environment. In 2015, we were absolutely delighted when through ISI Inspection it was concluded that we do reach this suitably ambitious goal and it was impressively stated that 'The school meets its aim to enable each and every pupil to fulfil their academic and all-round potential'.

Each week, through Open Events and individual tours, we welcome visitors to see our beautiful school sites on either side of the River Severn in the centre of Shrewsbury. If you are in the process of choosing a school, the best way to catch the spirit of Shrewsbury High and experience the warmth and enthusiasm of our teaching staff and pupils is to come and visit. Shrewsbury High educates girls seamlessly through from age 3 to 18 and boys from 3 to 13 and I am always pleased to meet parents and prospective students to answer questions and to provide a tours, so please do not hesitate to contact us.

We do look forward to meeting you.
